Christchurch - Eat, Drink and be Driven

"Eat, Drink & Be Driven" aimed to assist Christchurch workplaces planning Christmas work functions to adopt or improve Host Responsibility practices, particularly when it came to providing safe transport options for their staff or guests.

It was undertaken through the delivery of 1000 Host Responsibility and safe transport resource packs to larger blue collar Christchurch workplaces.

Each pack contained an "Eat, Drink & Be Driven" poster, resources detailing a comprehensive range of transport operators and participation incentives including complimentary taxi vouchers (redeemable through the three major local taxi services).  Fifty workplaces were randomly surveyed to determine the projects's impact upon both planning and practice of Christmas functions.

As a secondary objective, the project identified and targeted the 100 most booked function venues (nominated by workplaces) and provided them with "Eat, Drink & Be Driven" posters and a brief checklist for staff to use when accepting bookings.  For example, venue staff were encouraged to remind clients to make sober transport arrangements for their guests at the time they booked the venue.

The "Eat, Drink & Be Driven" campaign and slogan was well established after five consecutive years of use in Christchurch.
