Guidelines for Patron Welfare at Large Events

6 April 2021

These Guidelines replace the old Guidelines for Safe-zones and have been developed to help event organisers take a proactive, prevention-first approach and deliver safe events for patrons, from a whole-of-event perspective, to complement the emergency services provided by healthcare professionals. Event organisers can draw on its recommendations during their operational risk management planning for the event.

Alcohol Management Plan template

This blank downloadable template (MS Word) can be used to develop an alcohol management plan for any licensed premises. A WORD version of this template can be found here.

For large events, it should be used with the book resource Guidelines for Managing Alcohol at Large Events.

These guidelines were redeveloped in February 2021.

This resource is available as a booklet to download or as a folder resource. It provides an overview of the legal obligations and responsibilities of clubs with alcohol licences. The folder resource has space to collate all relevant information in one place. 

If you are a club and would like to order a copy, contact your local licensing inspector, Police alcohol harm prevention officer or public health officer who can deliver it to your premises. 

Only licensing inspectors, Police alcohol harm prevention officers and public health officers may order copies of the folder resource but anyone can download the PDF booklet version.

The Law - on-licensed premises A4 sign

An A4 signage poster for on-licensed premises.  It reminds customers of the law that intoxicated people will not be served alcohol or allowed on the premises and the ID they need to show to be served alcohol if they look under 25. It also lets them know that food, low and non alcohol drinks and free water are available.
